“Color is the expression and suffering of light” — Goethe
Depois da Imagem (After the Image) is a series of images that emerged through a study of color, and light driven from error. They are shots of gradations of light that emerged out of the darkness, and began to shift. Nothing is in focus, so there is this feeling of ecstasy or rapture, creating a proximity to painting through the use of a textured paper. The book invites the viewer to live with it in multiple ways as the pages are perforated. This book can either remain a book, or be teared and displayed on the wall.

Carolina Pimenta, born in 1988 in Porto, Portugal. Based between Mexico City & Lisbon.
After graduating from Leeds University [2010], Pimenta moved to NYC where she worked on a series of different projects involving production, video, photography and collage. Her images act as snapshots that capture pivotal moments in daily life, an observation of the quotidian traversing the borders of class, social economics, subcultures, isolation and camaraderie. Her lush color prints showcase the period of transition between adolescence and adulthood, where youthful innocence and optimism begins to fade yet there are still dreams, at times delusional, of grand futures. Pimenta’s snapshots capture expansive everyday social life with a nimble introspective glance simultaneously complementing, contradicting and challenging how social landscapes are often understood. Renderings of the human figure, public versus private spaces in a media-sat- urated culture, play, sarcasm, and humor are key themes. Her photographs evoke both the spontaneity of documentary realism and the intentionality of directed scenes, navigating through different cycles, rhythms and communities. When presenting her work publicly Pimenta aims to bring movement into the space to immerse the viewer in her narratives and encourage direct interactions with the work.
